S5 Pro/Ultimate — Software Update Guide
This guide walks you through the complete software update process for RSNAV S5 Pro and S5 Ultimate systems. Read every section before you start — neglecting a step can leave new features non-functional or, in rare cases, brick the device.
Is This Guide For Me?
This guide applies ONLY to: RSNAV S5 Pro and S5 Ultimate (Snapdragon 668, Android 13).
Do NOT use these instructions for: S2, S3, S4, or any Standalone CarPlay Interface. Using the wrong firmware will brick your device, and repair is at the buyer's cost.
Not sure which generation you have? Check the back-of-screen label or contact rsnav01@163.com with a photo.
⚠ Before You Start — Mandatory Checklist
This update wipes your existing factory and personalization settings. If you skip the photo backup step below, you will not be able to restore your device to its working state.
- Engine idling, ignition ON. The update can take up to 30 minutes. Running the system on battery alone risks a power loss mid-update, which can brick the device. Do NOT attempt this with a USB charger or bench power supply.
-
Take photos of three settings screens (DO NOT SKIP):
- Android Settings → main screen
- Car Mode Settings → all tabs
- Factory Settings → MCU (enter password
1314to access)
- USB drive ready: 16–32 GB capacity, formatted as FAT32 or exFAT. Larger drives (64 GB+) and NTFS formatting are not supported.
- Wi-Fi available in the car (or active LTE on the device). The system will download and install several new apps automatically after the update.
- Download the firmware from the latest release notes — see the Latest Release section at the bottom of this page. Do not rename the file or its contents.
- Extract the contents directly to the USB root (not into a sub-folder). The folder structure inside the zip must be preserved exactly.
Update Sequence — Strict Order Required
Perform the steps in the order listed. Do not skip, reorder, or interrupt. The total process typically takes 20–30 minutes.
Step 1 — SYSTEM Update
- Insert the prepared USB drive into a USB-A port on the RSNAV unit.
- On the device, navigate to Car Settings → Version Information.
- Tap System Update and confirm.
- The device will reboot automatically — this is normal. The update may take 10–15 minutes.

Do NOT remove the USB drive or turn off the engine during this step. The device may show a black screen or restart several times — this is part of the normal flashing process.
Step 2 — MCU Update
- After Step 1 completes and the device boots back to the main screen, return to Car Settings → Version Information.
- Tap MCU Update and confirm.
- Wait for the MCU update to complete. The device will begin to reboot automatically.
- Once the reboot starts, remove the USB drive. Do not pull it out before the reboot begins.

Step 3 — Factory Default Restore (Mandatory)
This step is required, not optional. Skipping it will prevent new apps (DSP, Z-LINK, CarInfo with G-Meter, 360 Viewer) from installing, and your device will appear to be missing new features.
- From the home screen, open Settings.
- Navigate to Backup & Reset → Factory Default Restore.
- Confirm the restore. The device will reboot to the welcome screen.
Step 4 — First-Boot Setup
- When the welcome screen appears, check "Do not remind" and tap Skip.
- Let the system idle for at least 5 minutes on the home screen. New apps are downloading and installing in the background. Do not touch or operate the device during this window — interrupting causes the install to fail and you'll need to repeat Step 3.
- A Google Play Protect prompt will appear warning about "unverified apps". You MUST tap INSTALL ANYWAY.
If you tap "Don't install" or dismiss the Play Protect prompt, the DSP App, Z-LINK, and 360 Viewer (Ultimate) will not be installed. You will need to perform Factory Default Restore again to retry.
Step 5 — Factory Configuration Import
- Re-insert the same USB drive into the device.
- A prompt for Factory Config Import will appear automatically. Tap Import.
- The device will reboot.
- After reboot, open Settings and use the photos you took before the update to manually restore your Android Settings, Car Mode, and MCU values.

Model-Specific Notes
| Model / Variant | Action Required |
|---|---|
| 9-inch 1280×720 | After update, set Factory Settings → MCU → Screen Type = KS08 for correct aspect ratio. |
| All other models (10.25", 12.3", 8.9") | No additional MCU configuration needed. |
DSP App — Usage Notes
The new DSP app (replaces the legacy EQ) only works when audio is routed through:
- Audi Auxiliary Input, OR
- RSNAV S/PDIF (Coaxial / Optical Toslink) output
If you are streaming music via the Audi factory Bluetooth, the DSP is not in the signal path and will not affect the sound.
Volume calibration: For best DSP performance, either disable Android volume control in the Car Settings app, or set Android volume to 32 (~70%). The Audi MMI's AKM ADC chip cannot fully process the high-frequency output from our Texas Instruments DAC at higher volumes — you may hear echo or THD distortion if Android volume is too high.
Troubleshooting
The device boots to a black screen after the update.
- Wait at least 3 minutes — first boot can take longer than usual.
- If still black, press the reset hole (left-side upper hole on 10.25"/12.3", right under the hazard button on 8.9"). The system will boot fresh.
- If this doesn't help, you may have flashed firmware for the wrong screen size. Stop and contact rsnav01@163.com with photos of the back of the screen and the original order number.
New apps (DSP, Z-LINK, 360 Viewer) are missing from the home screen.
- You either skipped Factory Default Restore (Step 3) or declined the Google Play Protect prompt (Step 4).
- Repeat from Step 3 — Factory Default Restore.
- When the Play Protect prompt appears, tap INSTALL ANYWAY this time.
The screen is garbled or shows colored lines after the update.
- This indicates the wrong-resolution firmware was flashed.
- Recovery: insert the correct firmware USB drive and let the system attempt automatic re-flashing on next boot. If recovery fails, contact support — do not continue using the device.
The device reboots in a loop after the update.
- Wait 10 minutes — repeated reboots can be normal during the first-boot app installation.
- If the loop continues beyond 10 minutes, attempt Factory Default Restore (reset hole during boot may be needed).
- Persistent loop = wrong region/MMI firmware. Contact support.
Wi-Fi or LTE no longer works after the update.
- Open Settings → Network and re-enter your Wi-Fi password.
- For LTE: confirm SIM is properly seated. North American customers: see the LTE notice on every S5 Pro/Ultimate product page regarding the EU motherboard for orders placed after April 17, 2026.
I think the device is bricked.
- Do not attempt further self-recovery. Email rsnav01@163.com with: original order number, photo of the back of the screen, photo of the failure state, and which steps you completed before the failure.
- If a return is necessary, the team will provide the correct repair address.
