Audi MMI System Identification Guide

This guide will help you identify which MMI (Multi Media Interface) system is in your Audi vehicle. For a visual walkthrough, please refer to the video below. (Courtesy of Mr-fix)

2G MMI High

Applicable Models (Approx. 2008-2009): A4 (B8), S4 (B8), A5, S5, A6 (C6), Q7 (4L)

  • A4, S4, A5, S5 (8K, 8T, B8): Features a 6-CD changer located in the dashboard.
  • A6 (C6), Q7 (4L): Features a 6-CD changer located in the glove box.

Concert / Symphony Radio

Applicable Models (Approx. 2008-2016): A4, S4, A5, S5, Q5, SQ5 (B8, B8.5)

  • Characterized by the absence of factory navigation.
  • All radio control buttons are located on the dashboard unit itself.
  • No MMI control knob or buttons are present near the gear shifter.
  • Does not support Bluetooth music streaming (A2DP).

3G MMI Basic (EU Region Only)

Applicable Models (Approx. 2009-2016): A4, S4, A5, S5, Q5, SQ5 (B8, B8.5)

  • MMI controls are located near the gear shifter.
  • The central control knob does not have a joystick function.
  • The system software version number begins with BNAV.
  • Typically has DVD-based navigation or no navigation at all.
  • Does not support Bluetooth music streaming.

3G MMI High

Applicable Models (Approx. 2010-2012): A4 (B8), S4 (B8), A5, S5, Q5, SQ5, A6 (C6), Q7 (4L)

  • MMI controls are located near the gear shifter.
  • Features a "RETURN" button instead of a "BACK" button.
  • The system software version number begins with HNAV.
  • Does not support Bluetooth music streaming.

3G MMI High Plus

Applicable Models (Approx. 2013-2016, up to 2018 for A8/S8): A4, S4, A5, S5, Q5, SQ5 (B8.5), A6 (C7), A7, S6, S7, A8 (D4), S8, Q3

  • MMI controls are located near the gear shifter.
  • Features a "BACK" button.
  • B8.5 Models: The central control knob includes a joystick.
  • Other Models (C7, D4, etc.): Often includes a touchpad (MMI Touch) for character input.
  • The system software version number begins with HN+.

MIB / MIB 2

Applicable Models (Approx. 2015-2020): A3 (8V), A4 (B9), S4, A5 (B9), S5, Q5, SQ5, A6 (C7.5), A7 (C7.5), Q7 (4M), etc.

  • This is the modern generation of Audi infotainment systems.
  • These vehicles are factory-equipped with navigation.

RMC

Applicable Models: A3, A4 (B9), A5 (B9), Q5, A6 (C7), A7, Q3

  • A lower-spec infotainment system found in some models.
  • Characterized by the absence of factory navigation.
  • Typically has a smaller, lower-resolution LCD screen compared to MMI/MIB systems.
